Sorry for the delay in posting. It was a busy holiday season both in the shop (Good) and at home. I have noticed lots of new customers in the shop in the last couple of weeks and I welcome everyone to our shop and hope we can be of service. I have had an emotional past 2 weeks. The day after Christmas my friend and co-worker Linda lost her fight with the cancer beast. She was only 48. All I can say is that she was one of the most wonderful, selfless, beautiful people that I've ever had the priveledge knowing. She was bright, smart and giving. Her smile was one I'll never forget. The Linda bag was designed for her Christmas gift. I would like to get some input as to how to best serve her memory with this pattern. Possibly giving some of the proceeds of the pattern sale to the Oncology unit at DKH or something like that. I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you think.
On another sort of sad note...my neighbor and landlord, is closing his family business after 53 years. I'm happy that he has the opportunity to spend more time with his family and grandchildren but also sad because the big box store has struck again and the little guy is left with little choice but to close. I know he will be missed, I will miss being able to run next door for my office supplies and seeing people i know.
Woolworks news for October
This is the time of year when knitters and crocheters think about the holidays and what they can make for loved ones. We have lots of ideas for you. Many new yarns for the season are arriving weekly if not daily. Here's the short list:
Cricket from Reynolds is a 52% rayon/48% wool, 5 sts/inch on a 5. (dk). This has a lovely subtle sheen and the rayon adds a nice touch and drape.
Marble now is available in baby colors in dk weight as well. Nice colors in all varieties, yardage is great and the price even better, wash and dry acrylic.
Kertzer Northern worsted acrylic machine wash/dry. 16 colors.
Kertzer Northern chunky acrylic, machine wash/dry, 8 colors.
Mission Falls 136 dk merino. Love this stuff. 14 fabulous colors.
Lana loft from BrownSheep is a 100% wool worsted/aran in 3 natural colors. Many more available. Ask to see the color cards.
Paradise from Nashua, 48% wool/40% baby alpaca/4%nylon. worsted weight in 7 lovely jeweltone colors.
On-Line supersock 100, 420 meters of sweet self patterning yarn so everyone can think you worked really hard on those socks. Wonderful colors, 8 to choose from.
New needle cases from Lantern Moon. Gorgeous silks.
Mini Mochi sock yarn from Crystal Palace is a very fun brighter self striping yarn with just a little more 'wooly-ness' for those that love winter socks. Fingering weight 195 yds and 12 colors to choose from. Makes a great hat or baby surprise sweater as well.
MMMMMM Malabrigo...chunky, worsted and sock! Yummy colors all here for the touching. Have to touch this stuff. This is a very popular yarn and hard to get from Uraquay. The fantasic cabled poncho in the window is made from this by Kim Mitchell. It's like wearing your favorite blanket.
Just in this week, to add to the chunky or bulky section, is Lei, a very nice merino. Come check out the super chunky, fast knit, cabled scarf/wrap. This is very soft and warm not to mention the latest in the fashion magazines.
We have a class on the jacket/kimono that I had published in the latest Knit N Style magazine. This is on Friday nights 6-8pm. There is still room.
Want to make socks? How about toe up? Two at a time? Tues at 10am. Join us.
